Spring Is My Favorite Season

Spring is in full swing here on our little farm. Everywhere I look, there’s a beautiful shade of green brightening my day. Does this season give you extra energy like it does for me? My heart’s happy every second I’m outside. I’ve discovered there’s nothing quite like the thrill of digging into the soil and watching your garden come alive.

This all started when I had to take 2 weeks off after kidney surgery. What does a goat dairy farmer do when she can’t lift more than a gallon of milk for 2 whole weeks? I’ll tell you…

I dove into the world of YouTube and watched every single video I could find on starting seeds. I thought, this will be easy, I can do this. I’ve got all those seeds I ordered last year and chickened out on trying.

Next, I ordered seed trays from Amazon, seed starter soil and a light bulb from Home Depot and got started. And since my goat milk soap work table is vacant for 2 weeks, I’ve got the perfect space. I figured this would be good practice for future gardening, someday… I don’t do plants well at all.

Pepper seeds, tomato seeds, basil seeds, and marigold seeds – now that’s a complete beginner’s garden in my opinion. I love peppers, tomatoes, and basil so why not? Marigolds were included because my research taught me that garden pests don’t like marigolds. Now that’s what I call a bonus. Pretty and useful!

Imagine my surprise when almost all of the seeds came up. Wouldn’t have guessed that in a million years with my past plant experiences. Who knew?!

This season, I’ve been busy planting a vibrant mix of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and herbs. Nothing beats the taste of a freshly picked tomato or the crisp crunch of a garden-fresh cucumber straight from the vine. The simple joy of harvesting your own produce makes every early morning weeding and watering session totally worth it.

Now, I absolutely love all things spring, gardening included – the long sunny days (not too hot yet), blooming flowers, and the reward of harvesting fresh homegrown vegetables.

If you’ve never tried growing your own food, give it a try. It’s messy, rewarding, and let’s not forget addictive. If I can do it, you can too!

It’s hard to believe that Summer’s just around the corner. Enjoy these last few weeks of Spring. I know I will.

  1. So glad you are enjoying your garden. Nothing better than vegetables fresh out of the garden. I wanted to let you know that about 12 years ago I bought a bottle of Liniment thinking it would be a good addition to our med kit while sailing. I ran across it last year cleaning out stuff from the boat. My knee has been giving me a fit so I rubbed Liniment over it. Wow! It really helped. Now on 2nd bottle and so thankful!!!

  2. I am so happy to see how much you love gardening. Your plants and flowers look so green and healthy. I believe you got your love of gardening from your Dad. I love and use your products and give them as gifts to others. I am so proud of you and all the energy you put in your business. I wish you the best. Love you, your Mom.

  3. Laura, I love your pictures… especially the sunflowers. Last week I took several pictures of sunflowers here in Texas … they’re all over the roadsides right now, and we just had some more rain!!! As for your garden, it’s lookin’ great!! And there’s nothing as good as FRESH vegetables, fruits and herbs/spices. Are you back to your goats milk products having recovered from your surgery? I hope things go well with you and your family!!! I love that your mom sent you a message!!!
